Marie-Antoinette, born Maria Antonia Josepha Johanna von Habsburg-Lothringen, was an Archduchess of Austria. She became Dauphine of France at 14 upon her marriage to Louis-Auguste, who later became Louis XVI. She became Queen of France and Navarre in 1774 and later Queen of the French. As the French Revolution unfolded, she was convicted of high treason, leading to her execution by guillotine on October 16, 1793. Her life was marked by political upheaval, controversial actions, and a complex public image.
